How likely is Northern Lights to test above 20% THC?
51% of 406 state lab tests of Northern Lights flower reached 20% total THC or more, about half. 9.1% reached 25% and 0.2% reached 30%.1
The odds depend on where the flower was tested: 57% of Maryland tests reached 20% (307 tests), against 31% in Michigan (39).1 Each state has its own growers, labs and testing rules, so the gap describes markets as much as plants.

How strong is Northern Lights compared with other strains?
By median total THC, Northern Lights ranks 14th of the 29 strains in our lab dataset (20.03%), between Lime OG (20.28%) and Strawberry Cough (20.00%).1 By the share of tests at 25% or more (9.1%), it ranks 14th.1
The middle half of its tests spans 4.77 points (17.28%–22.05%), the 9th-narrowest spread of the 24 strains with at least 30 tests: about average consistency.1
| Rank | Strain | Median THC | Middle half | Tests |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 12th | G13 Haze | 20.30% | small sample | 14 |
| 13th | Lime OG | 20.28% | small sample | 29 |

Does the testing lab change Northern Lights's THC result?
Among the 4 labs that tested Northern Lights at least 20 times, the median result ran from 16.26% (Lab C, Maryland) to 21.56% (Lab A, Maryland), a gap of 5.30 points.1
The gap is not only between states: within Maryland, the 4 labs with 20+ tests differed by 5.30 points (16.26%–21.56%).1
Labs test different growers’ flower, so a gap is not proof that one lab reads high; it shows how much the number on a label can depend on who grew and who tested the batch. Labs are anonymized here; the downloadable test file names them.
| Lab | State | Tests | Median THC | Share at 20% or more |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Lab A | Maryland | 174 | 21.56% | 76% |
| Lab B | Maryland | 66 | 21.14% | 58% |
| Lab C | Maryland | 40 | 16.26% | 7.5% |
| Lab D | Maryland | 27 | 17.86% | 3.7% |

Does higher-THC Northern Lights also have more terpenes?
Generally, yes. In the 306 tests that report both, the third with the most THC (21.79% or more) had a median of 1.53% total terpenes, against 1.10% for the third with the least (18.93% or less).1
The pattern holds in Maryland, the only state with at least 30 such tests.1 Total terpenes measure aroma compounds by weight; the comparison says nothing about effects.
| Tests from | Tests | Lowest-THC third | Highest-THC third |
|---|---|---|---|
| All states | 306 | 1.10% | 1.53% |
| Maryland | 291 | 1.12% | 1.54% |

Years with fewer than 20 tests are left out.

How common and how pricey is Northern Lights on dispensary menus?
In our Weedmaps snapshot of 27 US markets (Oct 3, 2026), 265 store listings within 50 miles of each market's center carried Northern Lights flower, in 16 of the 27 markets: the 4th most of the 16 strains we track.2
Its median exact-eighth price was $30.00 in Los Angeles (typical other strain: $27.50) and $41.52 in New York (typical other strain: $33.90).2 That makes it pricier than the typical strain in every market we could compare.
| Market | Northern Lights (priced eighths) | Typical other strain | Difference |
|---|---|---|---|
| Los Angeles, CA | $30.00 (76) | $27.50 (10 strains) | +$2.50 |
| New York, NY | $41.52 (66) | $33.90 (9 strains) | +$7.62 |

What this data cannot tell you
- Which terpene leads test by test: only 15 of the 406 tests report at least five individual terpenes; the analysis needs 20.1
- Which strains have a similar terpene mix: needs at least 30 tests with individual terpene values (15 here).1
- A particular jar: lab results describe flower sold under the name across 8 states from 2014 to 2024; only a batch’s own certificate of analysis describes that batch.1
- Effects: these are chemistry measurements. None of them predicts how a strain will feel to a particular person.
